Ghoom monastery :- This monastery is 8 km from Darjeeling. Built in the Tibetan style it enshrines a statue of Maitreya Buddha.

Takdah :It is 26 km away from city. Here are several nurseries growing Himalayan Orchids.

Kurseong(32 km) and Kalimpong (51 km) are other hill resorts on the way to Darjeeling.

Mirik:- This hill station is 49 km from Darjeeling. It is 6000 feet high with a beautiful lake in the centre.

Sandakphu : ( 58 km ) Located at a height of 3,657 meters, a favourite place for trekkers - there are trekkers huts along the trekking routes.

Gangtok : ( 139 km ) Capital of Sikkim.

Jalarpara Wildlife Sanctuary : The sanctuary, 121 km from Silliguri is remarkable for its treasure of one-horned Rhinos. Trained elephant are available to take the tourist around. There is a tourist bungalow inside the forest.
Himalayan Mountaineering Institute holds demonstrations in season on mountain climbing, rock climbing etc. There are number of Himalayan treks that can be undertaken from Darjeeling as a base. A Popular one is Sandakphu which can be approached by different trekking routes.
